Robert "Bob" A. Hill
For more than two decades, Robert A. Hill has relentlessly advocated for the rights of taxpayers in property tax appeals, through both negotiations with tax assessors and litigation. Mr. Hill's dedication to his clients has helped them save millions in taxes. He has earned Martindale-Hubbell's highest peer review rating of AV-Preeminent for his legal knowledge, communication ability, and high ethical standards.
Mr. Hill has represented clients in many important, high-stakes property tax cases. Recently, he acted as lead counsel in the precedent-setting case of Walgreen Co. v. City of Madison. This case has implications for property taxpayers located not only in Wisconsin, but throughout the United States, and is so influential that it was recently featured by Grant Thornton, LLP in its State & Local Tax Alert with the comment that "many never thought the [Supreme] Court would rule in this manner." Mr. Hill also recently achieved major victories in the Minnesota Supreme Court for a number of taxpayers, including McNeilus Truck & Manufacturing and the Southern Minnesota Beet Sugar Cooperative. He has obtained major settlements outside of court as well, including for the Hormel Company, and taken on challenging public interest cases, including:
- Jane Turner v. Alberto Gonzales, a case involving EEO retaliation;
- Sletten v. Ramsey County, a case involving mold contamination;
- Programmed Land v. O'Connor, a case about illegal property taxation;
- Lindgren v. MCTO, involving a government whistleblower; and
- Greiner v. City of Champlin, a sexual discrimination case.
